Wii Remote Son

Am I liable for damages my son causes while in his father’s care?
Today my 2 year old son had his fortnightly access visit to his father and was in his care for 3 hours as per our arrangement. When I went to pick him up his father informed me that our son had dunked his Wii remote in a glass of lemonade. I (and everyone I’ve spoken to) believe that the father is responsible as it was our child, in his care, in his home, but he feels that he should be compensated from his sons’ child support payment, or that I should pay for it directly. Legally, what should be done here? I don’t feel I should be held liable for things that happen due to his neglect.
Firstly, who’s wii are we talking about? If it is Dad’s wii, and it got ruined while playing with son, it’s Dad’s issue. If it belongs to others, then it it is to the parent in custody to work out.
